Avon Valley Triathletes

What We Do

Welcome to Avon Valley Triathletes, the home of the multi-sport arm of Avon Valley Runners.  Whether you’re a multiple Ironman, or thinking of your first duathlon, this is the place for you.

If you’re a member of AVR, you’re automatically a member of AVT at no extra charge. AVT is headed up by Caroline Scott, the Multi-Sport Secretary. Caroline also sits on the AVR Committee and is supported by the AVT working group. You can contact Caroline at avt@avonvalleyrunners.org.uk.

AVT is more than the sum of its parts – we believe being a member of a supportive group with similar interests makes us all better individually. No matter what challenge you’re taking on, you will find encouragement, advice, and very likely someone crazy enough to do it with you.

If you’re at all interested in triathlon, duathlon or any other '-athlon' involving swim, bike or run, come along to one of our regular sessions. All training and social/uncoached sessions are all pinned on the AVT Facebook Page

Coached Swimming

9pm Thursdays at Melksham Community Campus. Each session is £7.50 with AVT membership. You must already be able to swim 200m continuous front crawl to access this session.

Running and Transition Training

Saturday 08:30 – Althernating sessions. 1. AVT Run to Breakfast.  Whether it’s a 10k, a trail run, or intervals on the track, the breakfast will be worth it! 2. Cycle and Run to Breakfast including an initial cycle session followed by a short run and a coffee stop to enjoy both sports and get used to running off the bike.

Cycling

Special rides, maintenance workshops and other cycle events in addition to cycle to breakfast happen throughout the year. The AVT Strava 'Segment of the Year' is a monthly cycling competition building to an achievement over the year for a special AVT award. Our regular social rides will support members competing in ‘Segment of the Year‘ if they wish. We will also be competing in various time trials throughout the yea

Fixed Bike Sessions

Turbo session via Zoom and AVT are also on Zwift. Links to both of these are regularly posted on the Facebook page.

Upcoming Races / Events

Any upcoming races or events where you’ll see friendly AVT faces are shared on the Facebook group. AVT work together on special focus events and regularly take part in relays, these are published on the AVT Facebook members page. There is also an AVT league where you can achieve awards in achievements and effort. This is performance based. We take your best result in each of Time Trial, Aquathon, Duathlon, Triathlon and Aquabike, and express it as a percentage. We then average your results across each of the above events. If you did not do an event then you are awarded 100%, lowest score wins!

Come along and Try a Tri or Aquathlon

We often organise informal 'Tri a' events for beginner triathletes to have a go at multi sport in a friendly and supportive manner. There are no time pressures and plenty of members to speak to for advice. These events are shared on Facebook for members to get involved.
